Review: Beyond The Wall

Beyond The Wall Beyond The Wall by Tanya Landman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the story of Cassia a native Briton and slave who rebels against her master and has to flee for her life. She decides to head North to try to cross Hadrian's Wall as the tribes across the wall are still free. She is helped by Marcus a Roman who is not all he seems. Marcus has his own motives for helping Cassia which are revealed as their journey progresses. A good adventure story with a strong and capable heroine.

Review: The Diabolic

The Diabolic The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really enjoyed this book, another new series to follow in 2018. Set in a future where the human elite live on spaceships and the less fortunate 'the Excess' reside planet side subject to solar radiation and climate extremes. Those on the spacecraft control the Excess and everybody's access to information is severely limited. This is an empire starting to crumble as its ruling elite refuse change. Nemesis is a genetically designed creature intended to protect a single person but she discovers that she has the potential to be more than a killing machine.
The plot twists and turns and finishes on a positive note ready for the next book in the series.

Review: Carve the Mark

Carve the Mark Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great start to a new series. Veronica Roth has created another strong heroine based in another galaxy this time rather than the dystopian earth the Divergent series was set in.

Cyra is the sister of a brutal tyrant who uses her and her gifts to punish and destroy his enemies, but Cyra is strong and resilient. She has been passive, focused on surviving, but when Akos is captured and forced into her service she becomes motivated to rebel against her brothers control.

A fast moving plot that keeps you hooked. Looking forward to #2.
