Read it Love it Pass it On

Marcellin has just joined the Penguin Books Read it Love it Pass it On scheme. Penguin sends us copies of their latest titles and we distribute them for you to read. Write your name on the sheet at the front of the book and when you have finished pass it on to another student.

We would like to hear feedback on the books you read, you can post your thoughts on this blog, come and have a chat to us in the library or discuss your book at the weekly Book Club.

If you would like to join the reading chain come and see us in the library.

The Things They Carried

Year 13s who are reading this book this year as an English text put me on to The Things They Carried. We didn't have it in the library so we ordered it and I've just finished it. I've read a lot of great books about the Vietnam War and this is up there with them. The author,Tim O'Brien, describes fellow soldiers as well as incidents that he was part of during his time as a soldier in Vietnam. The cost of war on the people involved is at the heart of The Things They Carried and it will have you in turn upset and shocked at the horrors of war and at other times laughing at some of the absurdities. Told in the form of short stories it is easily accessible for senior students.

The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave is a great science fiction read. Aliens have invaded Earth and they aren't interested in making friends. The scariest thing is that they inhabit human bodies so you don't know who is alien and who is human. There are strong male and female characters and the book is well written. The 5th Wave was first published in 2013 and the next one is on its way.
